Fried Rice, Wanton Soup and a Noodle

A Blessed day to all!!! Christmas is just around the corner. The breeze of air is so cold and even if there was no festive celebration here to where I am, it still tells me about Christmas. Its been five days waiting for a cylindar tank so we have been ordering food outside.

Anyway, going back to the topic, what I have for today is mushroom fried rice which is non vegetarian because it contains egg and tidbits of chicken pieces. It was kinda greasy though but just fine to have when your tummy is hungry.

Hakka noodle on the other hand is another vegetarian dish or meal which is an all around favorite here in India. Every local restaurant you go to, you can just order hakka noodles.

For the soup, what I ordered was wanton soup which is sprinkled with coriander leaves and with spring onions. It is not the usual wanton soup you know of since it is not made of grocery bought wanton wrappers but a regularly made wanton wrap from the restaurant but their sizes were not uniform at all like these one that I have ordered. Just enjoying the day I can still have a short break from cooking and in the kitchen.

Chicken Spring Roll and Prawn Schezwan Rice with Noodles

I like spring roll because it is one of the finger foods which is easy to prepare as long as you have the readymade wrapper. But this chicken spring roll that I ordered here was different. It was not made by such thin wrapper which we used to buy back home. This chicken spring roll was made out of wheat like for making flat breads or chapatti that is why it was thick and bigger than what I expected.

Upon eating, I checked out what was inside, the usual cabbage strips, spring onions and carrots were inside plus the big chunks of chicken. It was more aromatic to me but the taste isn’t that yummy since it was not the type of spring roll that was crispy on its wrapper. I bought it so that I can just experience what was their version of a spring roll. For me it will be heavier on the tummy because of the wrapper. Two big pieces of spring roll is already enough to make you full if you have a small appetite like me.

This is not LUMPIA or TURON, this is Chicken Spring Roll

I wasn’t supposed to order out but we ran out of gas tank and we still don’t have the spare. Ordering here for a supply will take days unlike when I was in Philippines, whenever we ran out of gas cylinder, we can order it on the phone and it will only take 15-20 minutes for the tank to arrive. Anyway, so much for the rant, back again to what I ordered that is Prawn Schezwan rice with noodles.

It sounds interesting to me since Schezwan is a famous Chinese dish and I like shrimps so I’m curious to see the combination of it in rice and noodles. I never expected that the color would be too red, probably that is the version of their Schezwan, which I thought would only be stir fried to a shrimp, but it’s not. The usual ingredients that I have seen included was carrot, cabbage, spring onions, egg, prawns, hakka noodles and with seasonings. Nothing much fancy and nothing much to expect since it’s prepared in a local nearby restaurant. Maybe if I ordered it somewhere else where it’s a 5 star rate resto, it can be more lavishing in its approach.

This is not SPAGHETTI, its Shrimp Schezwan Rice and Noodles, oily isn't it?

Anyway this Prawn Schezwan Rice with noodles is too oily. It was too much that it thickens my lips with its oiliness. The rice wasn’t newly cooked; it was like a left over rice and was served again by masquerading it in orange red color to make it appealing. It was a total disaster because it does not justify what the prawns and eggs are doing there. The prawns may have wrongfully jumped in the wrong backyard while the egg was entangled in a spider web.

Chicken Springroll + Prawn Schezwan Rice with Noodles = Total Damage Rs155.00 or $3.44

Needless to say, my final verdict was.. I AM NOT GOING TO ORDER THIS AGAIN! I was just hopeless since I was too hungry and the nearest restaurant to where we order was also closed so I ordered this food in Toot…toooot.. I won’t mention the name of the restaurant, besides I am not paid for this one at all. Well, just another day in the life of a Food Blogger!

Chowking Restaurant in Landmark Mall Makati Branch

First Food Trip on my Vacation- Chowking Restaurant in Landmark Mall, Makati
It was really delightful to be back in my own country and to share good food with them. We went out for a short grocery in the afternoon and then we waited out for some time to rest as we take our snack at Chowking branch in Landmark Foodcourt.
They were offering promo coupons and we were able to grab two which includes 5 to 6 varieties of menu which is of course discounted. It will be my first time to taste these foods so I was the one who offered a treat.
I selected Wanton Soup while my folks selected Noodles and my youngest brother liked the Youngchow Fried rice. It took only 5 minutes for me to fall in queue to pay for the order and it costs less than P500 pesos which our orders were all inclusive of softdrinks.

Again we waited for my name to be called since that’s the style of Chowking restaurants. It took another 5 minutes for me to get the orders as I exchange the number that was given to me. After six months of vacation, it will be my first time to taste Chowking foods again. Well it wasn’t that good since I will be giving my verdict on each food that we selected. By the way, this is not about tarnishing their reputation. It is about my own opinion about the food that I tasted and I just wanted to share it with my readers. I have nothing against Chowking Company since they are one of the best restaurants in the Philippines with so many branches. I guess every branch of Chowking differs in the way they present their food. On my experience, I’d be giving this branch a rate of 4 out of 10 (10 as the highest).

Here is my Verdict-
Chowking Noodles- Well it was too oily and it tasted smoky. The chef that prepared this food have forgotten to slow down the flame of the wok and since the oil has been fuming so much, it grabbed its taste with the noodles and it turned out so bad. I have tasted the same noodles before, in another Chowking branch, but it wasn’t the same. The preparation was really different at that time and I just wish that they will improve their style with regards to cooking their noodles. Failing grade if I have to grade it.
Chowking Wanton Soup- The veggie was crispy and green in color which I really commend. The noodles were just fine because it was soft but not mushy. The only thing that I disagree with the soup was the bland taste. I really cannot taste what’s in the soup. It was really bland and one customer ahead of me was complaining since she said it tasted like hot water only. If only I took heed of what she said, I won’t order. But since I wanted to give it a benefit of a doubt, I still ordered the same and I thought the lady was just having a different taste than mine. But she was indeed right, the soup was really disappointing. I am just happy to mix it with chili sauce to give it a taste. Two thumbs down for this one.
Chowking Siomai- Just tasting like another popular Chinese dimsum, I don’t have anything negative about their Siomai. It was just fine and chewy and the sauce was just right.
Again as I have said earlier, I have nothing against Chowking. This was just my own personal opinion about the food I tasted. I will always go back to Chowking to eat but definitely I will try their other branch.
